The Association of Scholars Opposed to the Security-related Laws was founded in 2015 by academic professionals in a large range of fields, in response to the Abe administration pushing for security bills to allow Japan to exercise its collective self-defense right.
They have published several statements, including one that criticized the government for forcing the bills through the Diet. As of January 2021, approximately 14,500 university personnel from Japan and foreign countries are listed as supporters. Among the organizers are: Chizuko Ueno of Tokyo University (sociology), Tatsuru Uchida of Kobe College (philosophy), and Toshihide Masukawa of Kyoto University (physics).
Even after the security bills were accepted in the Diet, the association has occasionally updated their website to share information about their events or activities. They have also made a list of websites of university groups that opposed the security bills throughout Japan, which is available here.
