SHIMOMURA Hakubun

Hakubun Shimomura has been a member of the House of Representatives since 1996 as a member of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). He served as Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology from 2012 to 2015 and has held other significant positions within the LDP and the government, including Chair of the LDP’s Headquarters for Constitutional Reform (appointed in 2018). He advocates for constitutional amendments, focusing on revising Article 9 and introducing an emergency clause.

Additionally, Shimomura aims to enhance access to education and has proposed revising Article 26 of the Constitution to include a clause stating that no one should be deprived of the opportunity to receive an education due to financial reasons.
